Steve Westly has been involved in government and politics for over twenty years. He has held policy positions in local, state and federal government and was recently re-elected to his fourth term representing California on the Democratic National Committee. He began his political career as Co-Student Body President at Stanford University in the late ‘70s. After college Mr. Westly went to Washington D.C., where he worked on Capitol Hill and then for the U.S. Department of Energy. After returning to California, Mr. Westly was elected Northern Treasurer of the California Democratic Party, becoming the youngest state Party officer in California Party history. He went on to serve as Controller, Northern Chair and Vice-Chair of the California Democratic Party. He has been listed in the Who’s Who of American Politics since 1983. Mr. Westly has also worked extensively in the private sector and has held senior positions in Silicon Valley for the last fifteen years. As one of the early employees at eBay he was responsible for many aspects of the company during its rapid growth, including Vice President of Marketing, Business Development, Mergers and Acquisitions and recently Senior Vice President of International. In this capacity, Mr. Westly managed eBay’s international expansion in four continents. During his time at eBay Mr. Westly served as an officer of a publicly traded company with a market cap of over $12 billion. Mr. Westly was formerly the Vice President of WhoWhere?, the largest directory for finding people and businesses on the Internet. Before becoming active in the Internet sector, Mr. Westly served for five years on the faculty at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, teaching public management. Mr. Westly also served as an investment banker for Bridgmere Capital, a San Francisco- based investment banking firm. Mr. Westly has been a member of the USF Business School advisory board since 1990 and also serves on the Santa Clara County Trust for Land Preservation. He formerly served on the Board of Directors of the San Mateo County YMCA and Youth and Family Assistance Center. He and his wife have created the Steve and Anita Westly Foundation, a charitable organization focused on education, health care and the environment. Mr. Westly has both a BA and an MBA from Stanford University. He is married to Anita Westly and they have two children. |
