DragonVenture leads the US Steel Founders' Delegation to China

San Jose, California, October 2006

Silicon Valley based cross-Pacific venture capital and consulting firm DragonVenture led a US steel founders’ delegation to a number of major industrial cities in China in October 2006. This was the fifth delegation it led for trade associations from the metal industry.

The steel founders’ delegation consisted of members of Steel Founders’ Society of America (SFSA). Delegates include executives from SFSA as well as member companies from the US, Canada and South America.

During the week-long trip, delegation visited a handful of China steel foundries across the country. With a well-planned agenda, the delegates were given the opportunity to tour various foundries representing a broad spectrum of capacities in the city of Taiyuan, Shenyang and Hefei.

A grand dinner reception was hosted by the State governor of Shanxi (where Tiayuan is the capital) for the group, where delegates were presented with the overview and potentials of foundry industry in Shanxi. On the professional front, DragonVenture set up formal meetings for the delegates to have discussions with board members of China Foundry Association. A business dinner was also arranged for the delegates to engage dialogs with board members of Foundry Institution of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society.

Given the time restrain, the full-blown trip opened up the window to the mystery of doing business with China. DragonVenture’s delegation model has well proved there is continuing interest from US manufacturers to investigate the opportunities and challengers presented by China.
