FREMONT, California -- Sept. 21, 2001
Legend Silicon Corp., a developer of digital transmission technology for digital television (DTV) and broadband multimedia data casting, announced its second round of funding. SUNeVision Ventures, the venture capital group of SUNeVision Holdings (SEHK:8008), was the lead investor. Dragon Venture, Intel Capital, Savage Venture, Star Cluster Inc., and Tsinghua Tongfang (SSECHINA:600100) also participated in the financing. Legend Silicon will use the funding to extend its technology and product development in China.

Legend Silicon has developed a robust wireless transmission technology that combines digital television broadcasting with Internet data services. With its partner, Tsinghua University, the company is focussed on implementing a new digital television transmission standard in China.

``We are pleased to be working with these industry leaders,'' said Hong Dong, chief executive officer of Legend Silicon. "The new funding enables us to accelerate our product development and continue our effort in developing China's digital television transmission solution.''

Fred Chang, managing director of SUNeVision Ventures, said, "SUNeVision is proud to provide financing and support to the development of China's DTV transmission standards. Legend Silicon complements SUNeVision's existing Internet infrastructure and services businesses in Greater China. The investment also follows our venture capital strategy of identifying and supporting world-class technologies tailored to help China further develop its Internet infrastructure.''

``Broadband for household brings a new level of experience to PC users and has tremendous potential to accelerate the use of the Internet in China,'' said Cadol Cheung, director, Strategic Investments, Intel Capital. ``By offering the possibility of wireless datacasting, digital television has the potential to take China closer to a future in which the broadband Internet is a part of everyday life.''

``Legend Silicon has been working closely with Tsinghua University in developing wireless transmission technologies,'' said Professor Lu Zhicheng, board director and chief executive officer of Tsinghua Tongfang Co., Ltd. ``The participation of Tsinghua Tongfang in this round of financing represents the development of the co-operation. The future of China's digital television arena looks very bright. Tsinghua Tongfang will become the bridge connecting Legend Silicon to China's digital TV industry.''
