DragonVenture
leads Tooling & Manufacturing Delegation to Dongguan, China
Palo Alto, California, September 25, 2002
Silicon Valley based cross-Pacific venture capital and consulting
firm DragonVenture, on September 23rd, led a Tooling & Manufacturing
Delegation to Dongguan, the China city that has appointed
DragonVenture as its consulting agency of record for introducing US
business entities to Dongguan for potential investments.
US companies on the delegation are members of the
Tooling & Manufacturing Association
(TMA), a 1,600+ member not-for-profit organization of precision
metalworking, plastic molding, and supplier companies in the Chicago
area. With DragonVenture’s persuasive efforts, TMA decided to make
this trade mission to China to explore manufacturing, outsourcing,
partnership, or joint venture opportunities in China. TMA, at
DragonVenture’s advice, chose Dongguan as the first stop on their
China trip, attracted by Dongguan’s identity as one of China’s
largest manufacturing bases and the third largest exporting city in
China.
The TMA delegation was received by warm hospitality from the local
government. Vice Mayor, Mr. Zhang Shun Guang, greeted the delegation
with an opening reception, followed by an informative presentation
about the latest development of Dongguan. Earlier in the day, under
local police escorts arranged by DragonVenture, the delegation paid
visits to two major manufacturing companies in Dongguan, Mansfield
Manufacturing Co., Ltd, a 27-year old company specializing in
precision metal stamping and die making business without cease, and
Karrie International Holdings Limited, a leading personal computer
and server casing manufacturer. Delegates exchanged views on the
latest industry development with their Chinese counterparts and
toured the plants to observe the advanced technology their local
hosts have deployed.
The delegates, as well as the President of TMA, Mr. Bruce Braker,
and the organizer, Mr. John Rogers, a lawyer with Sachnoff & Weaver,
Ltd., were very impressed with DragonVenture’s arrangement of
quality meetings with major local manufacturing players. The visit
to Dongguan, although fact-finding at this stage, opens the window
to China’s huge opportunities for the delegates. Tony Luh, Managing
Director of DragonVenture, said, “We have no doubt US business
entities will continue to explore the manufacturing capacities of
Dongguan. We expect to see some delegates return to Dongguan with
specific projects or expansion plans. They can certainly look to us
for our consulting services to advise them on their China-entry
strategies.”
