"DragonVenture Invited to Speak at China Tech 2002"

Edwin Yeh, DragonVenture’s Partner and VP of Technology was invited as a speaker in the VC panel before a distinguished audience of 200 high profile IT, telecommunication industry executives and government officials at China Tech 2002 conference.

In addition to DragonVenture’s Edwin, the Venture Capital speaker panel included several distinguished VCs such as Acer Technology Venture’s  William Lu, Acorn Campus’s Bob Lin, Pacificap Investment’s Theodore Liu, Nokia Venture’s Jui Tan, and Michelle Wu of CIG. Among the audiences were several well-known figures including David Mortenson of Mortenson Company, William Chang of the Westlake Group and Dixon and Alex Doll of Doll Capital Management. 

The two-day ChinaTech 2002, Information and Communication Technology Conference, holding from January 12-13th, 2002 on the beautiful Hawaii beach, was ChinaTech’s fourth annual China-focused technology event.  As China recently surpassed the United States in wireless subscribers, with over 125 million subscribers as confirmed by the Ministry of Information Industry (MII), China is becoming the largest wireless and network communication market in the world and offering tremendous opportunities for the international communities.  ChinaTech 2002 served as the perfect platform for cross-Pacific senior telecom and IT executives to network and communicate on issues such as telecom opportunities, regulatory issues, earning repatriation, market trends, and entry strategies.

 While most of the global economy is in recession, the lucrative Chinese market is receiving growing attention from venture capitalists.  Not only were their presence there showed their interest for relationships cultivation but also they were there to exchange ideas with cutting edge cross-Pacific communication technology companies and collaborate with them to navigate through this promising opportunity while mitigating risks involved in cross-border investment.



The conference engaged top Chinese government officials and senior executives from leading high tech companies across the Pacific. Gui Shiyong, member of the Central Committee of Chinese Communist Party and Honorary Chairman of China Mobile Communications Association, as well as Liu Ji, Chairman of China Mobile Communications Association were among the conference attendees.  Many top telecommunications executives from Chinese companies such as Railway Telecommunications, China Mobile, China Netcom (CNC), China Telecom, China Unicom, JiTong Networks were also present. Their worldwide counterparts include executives from QualComm, Alcatel, Fujitsu, Intel, Palm, Panasonic and Siemens. Among the eminent speakers are Senior VP of Qualcomm Corporation, Regional Marketing Manager of Intel Asia Pacific, Managing Director of Alcatel, Director of China Mobile, President and CEO of Tsinghua University VC, wealth financial Advisor of Merry Lynch, VP of Siemens Ltd., China, and VP of TCL Mobile Communication.
