Technology Association's Annual Conference
SAN JOSE, Calif. November 17, 2001
Edwin Yeh, Partner / VP of Technology of DragonVenture,
Inc. appeared today at the annual Silicon Valley Chinese Wireless
Technology Association (SVCWireless) conference before a packed
audience (>200) in Doubletree Hotel, San Jose, California. The event
received extensive coverage in the local Chinese media including one
of the major newspaper, SingTao Daily News. In the speech, Edwin
provided the inside scoop of what VCs are looking for in a startup
and how a startup should prepare for a successful business venture.
Among other speakers presenting at the conference were: Hong Lu,
CEO of UTStarCom (Nasdaq: UTSI); Lili
Zheng, partner from Deloitte & Touche's
Chinese Services Group; Kalley Chan and Changchun Yuan, partners
from King & Wood LLP, and Stephen
Chiao, general partner from Sycamore Ventures.
Silicon Valley Chinese Wireless Association is a non-profit
wireless focused organization based in Silicon Valley. The
winter conference focused on the tips and traps of starting and
growing wireless ventures both in the U. S. and China. In line with
the theme, Edwin gave a speech entitled "What VCs are looking for in
a startup?" To answer this widely asked yet hard-to-answer
question, Edwin introduced a brand-new concept of "SPACE2", the
acronym of Special, Problem Solution, "A" Team, Customer, Entry
Barrier and Exit. Edwin elaborated that startups should be prepared
for such key questions from the investors: What's so special about
your startup? What are the problems you are trying to solve
and what's your solution? What's your management team?
Who do you value as customers? Who do you perceive as
competitors and what sustainable competitive advantages you have
over them to "leapfrog" the competition? And last but not
least, what's your exit strategy?

audiences after panel discussions
